Our Impact

Nasreen, from afghanistan

Nasreen, an incredible beacon of determination and our first Afghan client to start college in the U.S.! Majoring in Business Administration, Nasreen has overcome formidable barriers with unwavering resolve.

Arriving in Florida without English proficiency, she set a singular goal: to pursue education. Despite the immense challenges of enrolling in high school as an unaccompanied minor, including mid-year admissions and navigating financial aid complexities, Nasreen persevered. With RAA’s support, she not only graduated high school—the first Afghan client in Miami to do so—but also triumphed over the hurdles to higher education.

Haafiz, from Syria

Haafiz arrived in Miami as a refugee in 2022. With increased life demands, he struggled to transition to life in America. He prioritized work with his father to help with family finances and was reluctant to study English.

RAA’s Director of Learning & Development, Salma, sensed Haafiz’s motivation was low and worked with him to understand his goals: a degree in Applied Science in Automotive Service Management Technology to pursue his passion as an auto technician.

RAA worked closely to encourage Haafiz despite the hurdles of the college application process and the acceptance of his high school diploma from Jordan.

In spring 2024, Haafiz was accepted into Broward College. We are excited that he is now pursuing his academic and career goals, filled with hope and promise.
