How to apply for a library card?
Miami Dade public library
1) To find your nearest library go to https://www1.mdpls.org/webservices/locator and enter your area zip code. Adjust the search radius to find the nearest library.
MDPLS card is free to obtain in most of Miami-dade county and municipalities except Bal Harbour Village, Hialeah, Miami Shores, North Miami, North Miami Beach, and the Town of Surfside. If you reside in this area there might be an annual library card fee of 65 $. Please see https://www.mdpls.org/library-card/library-card.asp for more details.
2) Things needed to get a library card from MDPLS
Photo Identification
a) State ID issued by the State of Florida
b) Drivers License
c) Passport
d) School ID
Address Proof of Residence in the MDPLS taxing district.
a) Utility bills.
b) Property or rental lease agreement.
c) Pay stubs.
Note: Individuals less than 16 years of age must obtain parental authorization to obtain a library card. A parent or guardian must be present to give authorization.
3) MDPLS library card can be obtained through two methods.
Online (e-card): To apply online go to https://www1.mdpls.org/webservices/ecard/Account/Register and register for an account. You will require a valid working Email to register for an account. All communications from the library will be delivered to this email account.
An e-card gives you access to online library services such as E-books, audiobooks, and courses. An e-card cannot be used to check out books from the library. For this, a library card is needed.
In-Person: An in-person card is issued when the patron visits their local MDPLS branch. Approach the front desk and request a new library card. Show the necessary documents and obtain an In-Person card. You may be asked to set up a PIN to access your library account. Please note that individuals less than 16 years of age should be accompanied by their parents or guardian.
Broward Public Library System:
1) Go to https://www.broward.org/library/pages/Locations.aspx to find your nearest library relative to the zip code of residence. To be eligible for obtaining a Broward Library card, the patron needs to be;
Either a resident of Broward County or be born in Broward County (regardless of current residence).
Non-residents can apply for a Non-Resident All Access Card. This provides full access to borrow all Broward County Library materials and use online resources. 2) A Library E-card can be applied at https://broward.ent.sirsi.net/client/en_US/default/search/registration/$N/SYMWS/true? . Please fill all fields and click submit.
3) A physical library card can be obtained from the local library. The forms of identification required as proof for Broward County Residency:
One item from Section A, OR one from Section B AND Section C.

Section B: Photo Identification.
Out-of-state or international driver's license (if now residing permanently in Broward County)
Resident or condo card Passport Credit card (with photo only)

Section C: Address Verification

Broward County Student or Worker – Applicant must present Section B photo identification as listed above and any one of the following:
Current school schedule (with school address)
Current school ID (must identify a school in Broward County)
Employment ID (must identify a Broward County employer address) ● Letter from school registrar's office
Payroll stub showing Broward County address of employer
Visitor (6-month card) – Applicant must present Section B identification as described above with an out-of-county permanent address and one of the following to verify temporary Broward County address:
Lease agreement
Rental agreement
Hotel, campground or other temporary housing rec
Broward County Residents in good standing with the local Broward library (i.e. no outstanding checked-out items, fines, and fees) are eligible to apply for Nova Southeastern University Sherman Library E-Card: https://public.library.nova.edu/databases/. The NSU Sherman Library E-Card gives access to the E-resources (magazines, ebooks, journal articles) available through the NSU library.
